Apollo Achieves ISO 14001 In Record Time
Apollo Fire Detectors has recently gained ISO 14001 recognition
for its Environmental Management System (EMS). The certification
was achieved in record time, taking just five months from initial
implementation to formal recognition from the Loss Prevention
Certification Board.
An EMS provides a framework for managing environmental
responsibilities so they become more efficient and more integrated
into overall business operations. ISO 14001 is an international
standard that formalises this process.
"The speed with which we implemented our EMS shows Apollo was
already observing good environmental practice," said Quality
Systems Manager Rachel Surman. "We have been at the forefront of
environmental management for many years and have always placed
waste management and recycling very high on our list of priorities.
We are committed to continually improving our environmental
performance by anticipating new regulations and implementing
procedures that not only comply with, but often exceed,
requirements examples include our early adoption of the WEEE
Directive* and the Construction Products Directive."
"This proactive approach has paid off with our speedy
achievement of ISO 14001″, added Rachel. "It gives formal
recognition to our efforts and helps those we do business with
understand the benchmark we have achieved. The key to our
performance is training not just of our staff but also our
suppliers and sub-contractors. We also insist that our suppliers
are either ISO 14001 certified or agree to work to the principles
of ISO 14001."
