Faith, Football and Fire Detectors
Community projects for underprivileged children in Portsmouth
and further afield are set to benefit from a charity cash boost
from Apollo Fire Detectors. This week, premiership player for
Portsmouth FC Linvoy Primus visited Apollo's offices in Havant to
meet the Apollo team on behalf of the charity Faith & Football,
of which he is a trustee.
Linvoy will be leading a team of men and women on a trek across
the Sinai Desert , culminating in a climb of Mount Sinai , from 19
May to 26 May to raise awareness of, and funds for, the charity.
Apollo is specifically sponsoring a member of the expedition team,
Mike Harris, who is Player Liaison Manager for Portsmouth FC and
has a personal interest in Apollo as his wife is employed at the
company.
Mike, Linvoy and Mick Mellows, Founder and Director of Faith
& Football, were welcomed to Apollo's offices by Michelle
Agius, Sales and Marketing Director, and Paul Smith, Head of
Marketing of Apollo Fire Detectors.
Michelle Agius comments: "We are delighted to sponsor Mike's
trek in the Sinai desert, and applaud Faith & Football's
commitment to the communities it serves. Faith & Football makes
a positive difference to the lives of many young people both in the
UK and abroad and we wholeheartedly support Linvoy and his fellow
fundraisers in their efforts."
Central to the work of Faith & Football is the
establishment, organisation and administration of six-a-side youth
football leagues for boys and girls in inner city areas. The
organisation also visits primary and secondary schools, arranges
residential activity holidays for the young people involved in its
community leagues, organises community events, and raises funds for
the work of Faith & Football with underprivileged children in
India and Nigeria .
Mick Mellows comments: "Our challenge is not simply to complete
the trek through the desert but to raise awareness and funding and
to encourage community support for the work that we do. Apollo is a
great example of how companies within the local area can support
our projects and we are most appreciative of their help."
Linvoy Primus added: "We can't wait to get started on the Sinai
trek next month, which will be a tough challenge; but, more
importantly, the funds donated by companies like Apollo are really
going to enhance the lives of young people involved in the Faith
& Football projects and that is the end goal of our
mission."
