The Grand Hotel is a brand new development in the heart of
Reykjavik, Iceland. Owners Reykjavik Hotels wanted to create a
first-class hotel offering the very best in facilities and service
and the fire protection is no exception.
The building specification called for an analogue addressable
fire detection system, and the contract for supply, commissioning
and maintenance was awarded to Security Center of Iceland. They
recommended Apollo fire detection technology as the ideal solution,
due to Apollo's reputation for high reliability, top customer
service and freedom of product choice.
Security Center used a combination of Apollo's Discovery and
XP95 ranges of intelligent fire detectors with control panels from
Control Equipment Ltd to satisfy the fire detection requirements of
the fourteen storey hotel. This ability to select and mix Apollo
devices to suit individual requirements is due to the open digital
protocol that is common to all Apollo intelligent fire
detectors.
In total, over 1,000 devices were installed by electrical
contractor G Gudjonsson ehf, including optical smoke detectors,
beam detectors, duct detectors, manual call points and ancillary
devices.
Every guest room is equipped with an Apollo Ancillary Base
Sounder, while around 100 input/output units and switch monitors
enable the fire detection system to interface with the hotel's
smoke ventilation and sprinkler systems. In the event of an
emergency, guests can be evacuated in phases, with those nearest to
the source of an alarm alerted first.
The Grand Hotel's new fire detection system complies with EN and
Icelandic standards.
